About Me

My name is Rukshan Fernando and I teach in the social work department at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana.  Starting Fall 2008, I will be working towards a PhD at the School of Community Economic Development at Southern New Hampshire University.

Before coming to Taylor University, I was an associate director of Housing Unlimited, Inc., an innovative affordable housing corporation in Montgomery County, Maryland. I am still new to the blogging world, but was introduced to its benefits for student learning in a course taught by my wife, Jody Fernando, who serves as the Director of the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program at Taylor. You can review Jody’s blogs on TESOL and Culture.

When not teaching, research or studying, I enjoy eating at ethnic restaurants, reading books, playing basketball, and wrestling with my two cute children. If you would like to start a conversation, please e-mail me at rkfernando at taylor dot edu. You can also find me on Facebook and on Linked In.
