National Intermediary Organizations have been used primarily to assist community development corporations work in communities. However their work has expanded as to assist affordale housing corporations, community development finance institutions, and grassroots community organizations. For an understanding of intermediary organizations, please review this page written by the National Low Income Housing Coaltion.
Here are the main national intermediaries:
Corporation for Supportive Housing: “CSH helps communities create permanent housing with services to prevent and end homelessness (www. csh.org, 2007).”
Enterprise Community Partners: “Enterprise helps build affordable housing for low-income Americans by providing financing and expertise to community and housing developers (http://www.enterprisecommunity.org, 2007).”
Habitat for Humanity: Created back in 1976, has built over 150,000 homes since throughout the world. In addition to building home across the globe, the organization now works to create community partnerships and develop change.
Housing Assistance Council: This intermediary works to support and collaborate with partners in rural communities in the United States. The organizations also has a unique focus certain low-income regions such as Appalachia, Indian country and the Mississippi Delta.
Local Initiatives Support Corporation: LISC has 30 urban and 1 rural office locations across the country who empower community organization create healthy, safe communities across the country.
NeighborWorks America: This intermediary was created by Congress to support low-income communities. NeighborWorks America has created a membership network of over 240 community based organizations that receive technical assistance, training and funding from NeighWorks America local and national offices.
